Judo important in development Kosovo Olympic Scholarships Tokyo 2020
The Kosovo Olympic Committee has signed contracts for Olympic Scholarships ‘Tokyo 2020’ with 19 athletes, who were chosen based on the their potential and chances to get Olympic norm. The event was held in honor of the third anniversary of the provisional recognition NOC Kosovo by the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee on Tuesday. Present was also the Minister for Culture, Youth and Sport, Kujtim Gashi and Olympic Champion Majlinda Kelmendi.
The list of athletes was led from Olympic gold medal in Judo, Majlinda Kelmendi who will benefit 1,000 dollars per month, followed by Herolind Nishevci (Karateka, 700 dollars), Distria Krasniqi (Judoka, 500 dollar), Donjeta Sadiku (Boxer, 500 dollars) etc.
The President of Kosovo Olympic Committee, Besim Hasani, showed the criteria how the Olympic Scholarships were awarded and said that Olympic Solidarity of International Olympic Committee who sponsored Scholarships with 7,100 dollar per month.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport of Republic of Kosovo, Kujtim Gashi, was thankful for NOC Kosovo for securing this fund and added that athletes will have his support to achieve the best results.
Judoka Majlinda Kelmendi hopes that this financial support will help her colleagues get the Olympic norm, while her coach, Driton Kuka said: “We hope to have norms in three different sports”.
19 awarded athletes will compete in eight different sports.
