Who will qualify for the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires

For the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in Argentina in 2018, the qualification quota are announced. 104 athletes are welcome, with a maximum of 2 athletes (1 boy, 1 girl) per nation. To be eligible to participate in the Youth Olympic Games, athletes must have been born between 1 January 2001 and 31 December 2003. World Ranking List (WRL) points are given for results at IJF Cadets WJT events.

For the Youth Olympic Games WRL points will be classified as qualification points. The WRL as of 1 August 2018 will be the list used for the qualification and selection of the athletes. Qualification period: 1 January until 23 July 2018. Categories are the usual: U55, U66, U81kg and U100kg and for young women U44, U52, U63 and U78kg.

There will also be a team event where all athletes that have qualified in the individual events will be entered in the mixed team competition. Teams of eight (8) athletes (four (4) men and four (4) women) will be formed after the official weigh-in.

Among the previous Youth Olympic Games winners top athletes such as Miku Tashiro (JPN), Mikhail Igolnikov (RUS), Szabina Gercsák (HUN) and Brigita Matić (CRO), the last three all won medals last week at the European Junior Championships.
