Portuguese former World Number one Telma Monteiro will make her comeback at the Grand Prix in Budapest this weekend. The triple Olympian qualified for her fourth edition, but fell out of the top 8 seeded players due to her injury. Almost five months after having an operation to her left knee she returns. It won’t help her seeding in Rio, but if you want to win the gold, she knows her task.

That only medal lacks on her impressive list with five European titles, four times vice World Champion in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2014 and 17 World Cup victories. Monteiro won the Grand Slam in Paris in 2012 and 2015 but is chasing that only medal in Rio. On Saturday she will be fighting in her category U57kg.

Telma Monteiro, the most decorated Portuguese medallist ever. Her last event was in October when she won the final of the Grand Slam in Paris.

In Budapest also Celio Dias will return in his class U90kg. Dias will fight on Sunday and defend his gold medal in Budapest won last year. Also Dias was injured and couldn’t make the European Championships. His last event was in March when he took bronze at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi. In Paris last year he won bronze which makes him one of the outsiders for an Olympic medal in Rio, although he is also non seeded in Brazil, no matter the result in Budapest this weekend.
