Georgia European team Champion against Russia
The Georgian men’s team won the gold medal at the European Team Championships defeating the national team of Russia at home. Georgian won the 8th European title. became the European champion for the 8th time.
Georgia won the title for the first time in 2002 in Maribor, followed in 2003 in London and in 2007 the title was regained. In 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014 Georgia won gold again with a short break in 2015 when France won the European Games team title.
Georgia qualified for the final after defeating the Polish men in the semis, Russia bested France 3-2.
Anzaur Ardanov gave Russia the lead in the match U66kg against European Champion Vazha Margvelashvili. A giant boost for the home crowd, but it was Nugzari Tatalashvili who made the equalizer against Zelimkhan Ozdoev. Atvandil Tchrikishvili didn’t get a revenge match against European champion Khasan Khalmurzaev and signed for defeat against Tchrikishvili. The triple European champion made a splendid uchimata against Semenov after three minutes. Varlam Liparteliani pulled the trigger for Russia making 3-1 when he threw Sayd-Emi Zhambekov by ippon after being behind by yuko until 34 seconds for the end with a superb makikomi.
In the golden score Adlan Bisultanov took the victory against Matiashvili so the final score was 3-2.
The surprising Polish team defeated Czech Republic by 3-2 for a bronze medal, the first medal since 2012. Azerbaijan had never won a European medal in the team championships and they captured bronze with their strong team. France, without Teddy Riner, lost 3-2.
