All Japan Judo Championships essential for Rio qualification
This weekend the All Japan Championships take place, it will be the decisive qualification event for the Olympic Games in Japan. All top athletes are sharp to win this championship to get the ticket for Rio. Different than other Olympic years some of the top athletes are protected, to prevent the mistakes made in the 2012 qualification. In Fukuoka all top athletes come together.
One of the big battles is between Ami Kondo in the women's U48kg class of (Sumitomo Mitsui) and Haruna Asami (Komatsu). The home crowd want to see the bog stars such as the U57kg class where they want to see Kaori Matsumoto. She will be fighting for her company Beneshido but she is in fact unmatched for qualification. In the men's U66kg class with Masashi Ebinuma (Park 24) and the men's +100kg will have a battle between Ryu Shichinohe and Hisayoshi Harasawa. The world of judo will follow this national championship with huge interest. The lightweight categories will take place on Sunday.
