11 Oct 2014 17:25

Dutch Atlanta Olympian Denny Ebbers suffers a brain tumor. In fact it will be his last fight because Denny was informed that further treatment will not make a difference anymore. The heavyweight who won a European Senior bronze medal in 1995 in Birmingham does the ultimate to fight now for the legacy for his family.

Despite his perseverance he is unfortunately terminal, a fight he’s not able to win.

Ebbers name was on the judo map since 1993 when he won the national junior title and bronze at the European Junior Championships. One year later at the age of 19 he was already vice World Military World Champion followed by the world title in 1997. He won several international judo events and at national level he was the ever lasting opponent of Dennis van der Geest.

At the international podium he fought judoka such as David Douillet (FRA), Imre Csosz (HUN), David Khakhaleishvili (GEO), Rafal Kubacki (POL), Harry van Barneveld (BEL), Sergey Kosorotov (RUS), Frank Moeller (GER), Naoya Ogawa (JPN), Shinichi Shinohara (JPN) ad Ernesto Perez (SPA), all World or Olympic medallists. Ebbers was among those great judoka.

The 40-year old judoka is a father of three sons. Now his friend are standing together to organise a special evening for him and his family to raise money for a study foundation for his children and support for his wife Ursula.

It’s a small gesture to give him the trust for the future of his children.

Denny is a fighter and since his was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 he fought with all his body.

At a special evening for Ebbers next Tuesday, artists will voluntarily cooperate to make it a great party where the funding will go to the future study of his children Bart, Max and Cas.

Don't give up on Denny and if you can you, support this Olympian at this special evening.
