IJF World Judo Tour newcomer Yan Wang of China arrived on the scene last year at the Tokyo Grand Slam. Wang lost in Japan to Junior World Championships winner Sone Akira (JPN) but responded by taking a highly-impressive silver medal at the Paris Grand Slam this year which saw her avenge her defeat to Japanese teenager Sone. Wang took bronze at the Hohhot Grand Prix in May 2018. She won gold at the 2019 European Open in Prague. She captured the bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Budapest in 2019.
