Ami Kondo was World Champion seniors in 2014 in Chelyabinsk when she was just 19. Later she won the World Junior Championships U21 in 2014 in Miami. In 2015 she won bronze at the senior worlds in Astana and bronze in 2017. Kondo won the Grand Slam of Tokyo in 2015 and IJF Masters in 2016 and silver in 2018. Olympic bronze medallist in 2016 in Rio. She won gold at the Grand Slam in Ekaterinburg and Tokyo and in Paris in 2019. Kondo retired in 2020 after not making the Tokyo Olympics.
