American judoka Michael Swain was the 1987 World Champion of Essen. Mike was 1988 Olympic bronze medallist one year later and in 1985 he showed himself as runner up of the World Championships. He competed U71kg. Swain was USA coach of the men during Atlanta 1996. Competed four times at the Olympic Games: 80,84, 88, 92. His father in law was: Chiaki Ishii (1972 - 95kg Olympic Bronze Medallist - Brazil)
