Soviet judoka Yuri Sokolov became World Champion in 1985 in Seoul and was second in 1987, both U65kg. Sokolov was European champion in 1986 in Belgrade. He won major events such as in Tblisi and Potsdam and started as European Cadet champion in 1978.
