Belgian judoka Robert Van De Walle was 1980 Olympic Champion in Moscow. He became the first-ever judoka to compete at five Olympics, from 1976 to 1992. He had a great technique and was double Olympic medallist in 1980 and 1988. He won 7 World medals and was European Champion in 1980, 1985 and 1986. He won 17 European medals, still a huge number. After retiring from competition, he and his wife ran a coaching company. He headed the Belgian delegation at the 2004 Summer Olympics. In June 2022 he received the ninth Dan.
