Japanese judoka Yoshiharu Makishi was 1997 World Championships finalist. He won the Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg in 1994. In 1992 he started with bronze at the World Junior Championships and he won the FISU world title in 1995. He claimed the Kano Cup in 1994 and 1996.
