Japanese judoka Yuko Emoto was 1996 Olympic Champion in Atlanta U61kg. Emoto fought off Belgium's former world champion Gella Vandecaveye and snatched the half middleweight women's gold with a slow-motion ippon, bringing home the first Olympic judo title of the 1996 Games to Japan.
