Roberto Ibáñez became President of the Ecuadorian Judo Federation. As a judoka he took a bronze medal at the Brazil World Cup in Belo Horizonte in 2008. He took a silver medal at the Pan American Games Rio de Janeiro in 2007 U66kg and silver at the Pan American Championships in Miami in 2008. He also claimed a bronze medal at the 2005 Pan American Championships in Caguas (PUR). He was South American Champion in 2008. In 2022 he was organiser and president of the Junior World Championships in Guayaquil.
