Polish former judoka Wieslaw Blach was the 1985 World bronze medallist. He was European champion in 1987 in Paris. After his career he became a successful coach and won the Olympic title in 1996 with Pavel Nastula. The EJU Sport Commissioner can boast having taken up the position of head coach to both teams Poland and Belgium, stood for six years as the Polish Judo Federation president as well as 15 years as an official for the EJU. During the 3rd European Games in 2023, Blach was awarded with the ‘Best of the Best’ trophy by both the President of the European Judo Union, Dr László Toth.
