Kornelius Eilertsen closes six year hap for Norway with silver medal in Celje

At the European Cup Celje in Podčetrtek, Slovenia, Ukraine and Germany impressed at the two day event. The European Cup was held for the 13th time in Slovenia.

Under 60kg Nazar Viskov (UKR) representing Ukraine, became the youngest winner of the weekend and demonstrated remarkable agility and precision, earning him the gold medal in his contest against Csanad Feczko (HUN)

Karo Marandian was the second highlighting the strength of Ukrainian judo. It was an all Ukraine final against Vadym Chernov. Also in Under 73kg Ukraine captured the gold. Serhii Nebotov represented his country with great pride on the podium after he defeated John Waizenegger (SUI) in the final.

On Saturday the lightweight women saw a first gold medal for Austria’s Lisa Dengg. Dengg's finesse and agility prevailed against her compatriot and multiple Austrian champion Jacqueline Springer.

Gal Nahum of Israel brought a combination of speed and technical finesse to the mat under 52kg. She defeated Chiara Serra of Germany for a silver medal. Masa Slavinec (17) was the youngest medal winner of the tournament, she took bronze for the home country.

Anita Cantini (26) from Italy mesmerized the judo fans with gold against younger Emma Nalbat of the Netherlands who proved to be a formidable athlete on Saturday.

Brigitta Varga of Hungary in on good form. She embodied the spirit of Hungarian judo and was able to defeat Anastasiya Antipina of Ukraine in the final.

On Sunday the men continued.  Benedek Toth of Hungary did bring the gold back home after he overcame his opponent, Igor Tsurkan of Ukraine. It was Toth's third European Cup victory in his career.

Another gold medal Under 90kg though for Stanislav Gunchenko from Ukraine against Kornelius Eilertsen of Norway who was in the final for his country as first athlete since 6 years at a European Cup.

Under 100 kg the experienced Daniel Herbst of Germany (28) emerged as the epitome of judo excellence. Martin Bezdek of the Czech Republic couldn’t stop Herbst from winning the gold. Also +100kg it was Germany to win. Daniel Udsilauri (20) entered the arena with an aura of invincibility. He defeated Movli Borchashvilli of Austria in the final and brought Germany its third gold medal. Herbst won six world cups in his career, but this is a nice medal as well, his second European Cup victory and a total of eight medals at this level.

Meanwhile Samira Bock had opened the account for Germany on with her masterclass in judo. She defeated Karla Kulic of Croatia in the final and became the youngest female winner (20).

Paulina Dziopa of Poland showcased her prowess with her remarkable techniques and unwavering spirit. Nikolett Sagi of Hungary took the silver for her country.

Carmen Dijkstra of the Netherlands towered above her opponents and bested Elisabeth Pflugbeil from Germany in the final +78kg. She took the only gold medal for the Dutch team.

Ukraine finished first with four gold medals, followed by germany (3), hungary also performed well with 8 medals. Check the medal table
