The final of Abu Dhabi in the women’s -70kg opposed German Laura Vargas-Koch and Bernadette Graf of Austria. The German fighter scored first with a massive ko-uchi-gari but only for yuko. The German added one more yuko with a uchi-mata to secure the victory.

The first bronze medal fight opposed the winner of the Ulaanbaatar Grand Prix this year and Asian Games bronze medallist, Naranjargal TSEND AYUSH (MGL) and Kelita ZUPANCIC (CAN), World Number 4 and winner of the Baku Grand Slam, last year. After 3 minutes two penalties on each side were distributed, when TSEND AYUSH was penalized again for having pushed ZUPANCIC outside of the fighting area. This one shido difference was enough to offer the bronze medal to the Canadian.

The second bronze medal fight of the -70kg weight category opposed Katarzyna KLYS of Poland and Assmaa NIANG of Morocco. NIANG was penalized a first time for passivity halfway through the bout. It was then the turn of the Polish judoka to be penalized for passivity as well, as NIANG was putting pressure on her. Supported by a strong Morrocan community present in Abu Dhabi, NIANG couldn’t finally block the last attack of KLYS who scored waza-ari with a harai-makikomi, immediately followed in ne-waza for ippon.
