Belarussians show off, but Russia takes double gold

Belarussia had a great day at the last competition day of the European U23 Championships in Podgorica in Montenegro. The gold medal for Daniel Mukete in an all Belarus final against Mikita Sviryd was the highlight of the day for the team of Leonid Sviryd. In fact a big part of the men’s junior team that won a World bronze team medal in 2015. Read more

Double Dutch Gold at European U23s in Podgorica

The Netherlands claimed two gold medals at day two of the European U23 Championships. With Geke van den berg and Hilde Jager the Dutch had a great day. Saian Ondar (RUS) and Dorin Gotonoaga (MDA) claimed gold in the men’s division. Read more

Dzmitry Minkou shows Belarus the way to successful European U23 Championships

Belarussian youngster Dzmitry Minkou added another important milestone to his impressive career. Minkou won the European Gold medal for judoka U23 years in Podgorica, Montenegro. Another confirmation that belarus judo is growing strongly and with this generation the European Games in 2019 can be a massive success with judo as main sport. Read more

European U23 Championships in Podgorica opportunity for new generation

Mattias Casse is the only World Junior Champion who appears at the European U23 Championships in Podgorica. The Belgian world champ is one of the favourites in the category U81kg and the highest seed. As usual a tough category with Anri Egutidze (POR), Fagan Guluzada (AZE), Dominik Druzeta (CRO), Jim Heijman (NED) and Nicklas Bloechl (GER) as medal contenders. Also home player Arso Milic is a well known fighter who won his first European medal in 2012 at the Cadet European Championships in Bar, also in Montenegro, the first major event in this relative young country. Group of Montenegro clubs and athletes protest heavily against current board

The Montenegro Judo Federation have received a letter of protest signed by some of the best judoka in Montenegro. The federation is organizer of the European U23 Championships in November and will not be pleased with the pressure by their own athletes. Read more
