Tragic death of Junior World Champion Kazbek Zankishiev

The world of judo mourns the untimely passing of Kazbek Zankishiev, a renowned Russian judoka who competed in the heavyweight category, U100 kg. At the age of 31, Zankishiev's sudden death has sent shockwaves through the judo community, leaving behind a legacy of talent.

The Russian Judo Federation confirmed the heartbreaking news, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of Zankishiev. In a statement, the federation described him as a "talented athlete and a decent person," highlighting his significant contributions to Russian judo. The federation extended its heartfelt condolences to Zankishiev's family and friends, acknowledging the profound impact of his passing on the judo community.

Throughout his career, Zankishiev achieved notable success on both national and international stages. In 2018, he secured a bronze medal at the World Championships in Baku, showcasing his prowess in the team event. Zankishiev's journey to world class began with victories at the Russian Junior Judo Championship in 2011 and the Russian Junior and U23 Championships in 2011, 2012 and 2014, where he emerged as a three-time champion. As senior he claimed four Grand Prix victories in Tbilisi (twice) The Hague and Tashkent which was his last international result.
