Barbara Timo preparing for Grand Prix Portugal

Barbara Timo is preparing for the Grand Prix in Portugal. She claimed a bronze medal at the World Championships in Tashkent in 2022. She captured the gold medal at the Grand Slam in Paris in 2021 for Portugal. She took the silver at the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo. She bagged a bronze medal at the Europeans in Lisbon in 2021.

Portuguese judoka Barbara Timo is preparing for the upcoming Grand Prix in Portugal this January. She has already achieved great success on the IJF World Judo Tour and she captured bronze at the 2022 World Championships in Tashkent and she took silver at the 2019 World Championships.

After the Tokyo Olympics, she changed her weight class and suddenly won the Grand Slam Paris last October in her new weight category U63kg.

Timo: "It is the first competition of the year and nothing better than to start competing at home. It increases a lot the motivation, I would even say that it is an extra energy for me. I really like the crowd in the stands and I am able to take advantage of their presence. I really hope that the fans, the judokas and all those who love judo come and follow the fights over the three days."

Timo is an excellent judoka with great technique who shows her skill on the tatami. Her form can be seen through her late medals, showing that she is on top of her game and ready to compete in Portugal this January. One of her training partners is Telma Monteiro who is also member of omni sportsclub Benfica.

Fans of judo should keep an eye out for Timo as she continues to make a name for herself on the global stage with increasingly impressive performances. Timo won 16 World Cup medals. Since 2019 she fights for Portugal and was born in Brazil. She won bronze at the Grand Slam of Paris in 2019 and gold at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi in 2019. She claimed bronze at the Grand Slam in Budapest in 2020. She took bronze last year at the Grand Slam in Antalya.

Timo: "Of course I hope to have my best performance and that it continues throughout the season and until the end of the year. To be among the top 8 is indeed a goal to ensure a presence in the Olympic Games. But we are taking one step at a time and the first big step will be next Saturday in Paris."
