Telma Monteiro recovering from tore meniscus
Telma Monteiro is unlikely to recover in time for the World Championships in Tashkent in October. The Portuguese judostar has been operated on her tore meniscus and will need to take the time to recover.
Monteiro (36) reacted on her social media: “Unfortunately a few weeks ago I hurt my knee, I tore my meniscus. Today I had an operation to treat this injury. Luckily everything went well and I'm home now. I don't believe there is always a reason why things happen, but I do believe that we can always choose how to react to what happens.”
For my part, those who accompany me already know how this story ends. Now it's time to focus all my energy on recovery to get back to doing what I like in the best way. Positive energy always
Telma Monteiro claimed an Olympic bronze medal in 2016 in Rio and is six time European Champion and four times vice World Champion in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2014. She is going for her sixth participation at the Olympic Games and was flagbearer for Portugal at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. She can become the only athlete with six participations at the Games where she debuted in 2004.
