Varlam Liparteliani and European Championships is a love hate relation. The European Champion of 2012 from Georgia regained his title in Montpellier U90kg. Lipi claims European medals since 2009 and lost the final last year against Denisov. This time no surprise for the Georgian technician who bested another Russian Kirill Voprosov in France by yuko.

The happy counter from Georgia was satisfied and didn't get it for free. He defeated Krisztian Toth (HUN) in the semi-final by waza-ari and had a tough match in the quarter against Karolis Bauza (LTU). Liparteliani was behind by scored waza-ari, but caught up in time and progressed well. Although he suffered with tremenouds weight loss to make weight in advance of this championship. The question is how long he can hold this category on his way to Rio.

Frenchman Alexandre Iddir won the bronze medal. Despite his los against Voprosov he came back for bronze and bested Joakim Dvarby (SWE). Also bronze for Toth of Hungary who remains a candiate for the world title despite his age, but his guts, attitude and tactics are extremely good for his age.
