The Canadian junior judo team had its best European performance ever by capturing five medals at the « A » tournament that took place in Jicin, Czech Republic. In this tournament sanctioned by the European judo union, three of those medals were earned by Quebecers.

Émilie-Claude Leroux (63 kg), from Lachenaie, finished in third place along with Montrealers Sasha Mehmedovic (66 kg) and Guillaume Cavalli (90 kg).
Christine Tsuyuki (52 kg), from British Columbia, took the bronze as well. Scott Edwards (100 kg), from Alberta, was able to win a silver medal in his category.
«I'm extremely satisfied of those results. This proves the youth program to develop junior talent works,» said Jean-Pierre Cantin, who is the trainer on the junior national team.

« Three other athletes were able to help Canada qualify for the world junior championships that will take place in Hungary, in November. This means Canadian judokas will have representatives in six different categories for this competition. »

The junior national team will participate in next week's Berlin Omnium, in Germany.
