World and Olympic Champion Lukas Krpalek tested positive for Covid-19. The Czech judo star was one of the favourites for the +100kg title at the comeback of judo in the occasion of the Grand Slam in Budapest this weekend. Before his departure he was tested according to the protocols and couldn’t travel to Budapest.
He will be preparing for the European Championships that will be held 19-21 November in his own country Czech Republic. Krpalek is the eyecatcher of the tournament, although there will be no home crowd. Judo fans will have to wait until November once he is recovered to see Krpalek’s Osoto gari, Harai goshi and Uchi mata.

Krpalek: “I was so looking forward to my first races to be this weekend in Budapest. But tests before leaving unfortunately showed me that I was positive for covid-19. So now I stay in quarantine and follow the doctors' instructions to be fit for the November European Championships in Prague. Be careful of yourself and most importantly, be healthy!”
Lukas Krpalek became Olympic Champion in 2016 in Rio where he was the flagbearer for his country. In 2019 he became the heavyweight World Champion in +100kg. In 2014 he won the world title U100kg and was double European Champion in 2013 and 2014 U100kg. He won the European senior title +100kg in 2018 in Tel Aviv.
