Teddy Riner back at the Grand Slam in Paris

The world-renowned Paris Grand Slam, the IJF’s iconic French supershow, will be more important than ever in 2020 as the first of four Grand Slam events to take place before the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Tickets are now on sale for the two-day showpiece (8-9 February) at the AccorHotels Arena which attracts the world’s leading judoka and thousands of fans along with hundreds of media from all over the world.
Double world bronze medallist Axel Clerget (FRA) said: “I think that it is the atmosphere, the amazing fans who are in love with judo, who make the Paris Grand Slam so special.
“A lot of athletes from different countries tell me about their pleasure to fight with a big crowd and the noise when there is a nice ippon. And for me that is the tournament that I came to see when I was a child. Over 20 years I came to watch this competition to see the legends of judo and now I’m fighting in it!”
London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist and nine-time Grand Slam medallist Priscilla Gneto (FRA) said: “For the spectators it's a good moment to meet their champions and to watch a great fights. It's like a big judo party!
“There’s a great atmosphere! Judoka from everywhere are very close to the public so they have the chance to take pictures and even speak to them. For all of us it’s a great experience. And Paris is magical!”

Team World Championships reactions
The final for team between Japan and France delivered a few excellent battles. Key match was between former double World Champion Chizuru Arai and current World Champion Marie-Eve Gahie of France. It was Arai who defeated the French world champ. Read more

Noel van 't End breaks the curse for the Netherlands
Dutchman Noel van ‘t End won his first world title after a gruelling day which culminated with a narrow triumph over Osaka Grand Slam winner Mukai Shoichiro of Japan in his sixth contest of the day. World number 10 Van ‘t End, who lost to Mukai in the Osaka Grand Slam final last year, lit up the U90kg category all day long and recorded the biggest win of his career with a mesmerising o-soto ko-soto combination for a waza-ari score with 27 seconds left. Spaniard Sherazadishvili expected to follow up the world title
The Russians have sent a remarkable team to the European Games. Of course, they have a wealth of choice and the focus is in Tokyo. Axel Clerget brings France first gold in Israel
Frenchman and World Championships bronze medallist Axel Clerget clinched his second Grand Prix title as he defeated Nicholas Mungai of Italy in the U90kg final. The Frenchman submitted his rival with a ude-garami to provide his country with their best result in Israel and will now look forward to his home event, the Paris Grand Slam, in two weeks time. Nikoloz Sherazadishvili writes new history for Spanish judo
Spain cheers for Nikoloz Sherazadishvili as first Spanish man to take the world title since the first World Championships in 1951. Sherazadishvili was the most consistent during day 5 in Baku and he finished his match with a great uchimata after again a long contest, two minutes in extra time. Born in Tbilisi Georgia, and moved to Spain seven years ago. Read more
