Next week the European Games in Minsk will start which is the second edition after Baku organized the Games in 2015. In other continents it’s a long tradition to have continental Games each four years, Europe was the last continent to include these games and try to organise a united European Championships in the Games. For Judo this was a successful bid as annual the European Championships are integrated into these European Games.

Top athletes and top action are guaranteed. One of the stars will be Triple world champion and Olympic silver medal-winning judoka Clarisse Agbegnenou who has been named French flag bearer for the 2019 European Games.

Each country will have a flag bearer and we wonder how many judoka will carry the flag as judo is an important contributor to the success of the Games.

Agbegnenou will lead the team into Dinamo Stadium at the beginning of the Games in Minsk, which run between June 21 and 30.

Agbegnenou tweeted: "Very proud and moved to have been designated the flag bearer. "I hope to live up to this honor of leader!"

The 26-year-old from Rennes, who fights at U63kg, won individual gold at the 2014, 2017 and 2018 World Championships, as well as the European Championships in 2018, 2014 and 2013. Agbegnenou took bronze at the European Games in 2015 won by Martyna Trajdos.

The category U63kg is very European with 11 women in the IJF Top 20.
