World Champion Nikoloz Sherazadishvili won’t compete at the Grand Slam in Paris. He has a back injury and won’t be able to win a medal for the first time. The winner of the IJF World Masters has never won a medal in Paris. He lost to Kukolj in 2015, to Cheng in 2017 and in 2018 to Clerget, not the least, but this year the Spaniard is the number one of the world.

Sherazadishvili captured one Grand Slam victory in his career, in Abu Dhabi in 2017.

In 2018 Clarisse Agbegnenou was the only World Champion who won the Grand Slam in Paris. Leire Iglesias was the last Spanish judoka to win in Paris in 2007. The last man to win for Spain was heavyweight Aythami Ruano in 2002.
