Japan on the road to prolong Mixed team title

Defending champions Japan powered into the final by winning all three of their matches in the opening session. Japan routed Mongolia 4-0 but found hosts Azerbaijan to be a more difficult assignment as they lost two contests in a 4-2 victory.
The unified Korean team (below), a world first in judo, made history and started with an emphatic 4-0 win over Romania and then matched that result against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.
France defeated Brazil in a 4-2 thriller to claim pool C having started their day with a win over Hungary with the same scoreline.
Russia ran through pool D in dominant fashion. The hosts of 2014 World Judo Championships beat Kazakhstan 4-0, Great Britain 4-2 and overwhelmed Germany 4-1.
In the first semi-final Japan defeated the unified Korean team 4-0 while in the second semi-final France overpowered Russia 4-1.

The World Mixed team title was captured by the team of Japan and they prolonged last year’s title from Budapest here in Baku. Witnessed by Russia Federation President Vladimir Putin Russia and a united team of North and South Korea took bronze. France lost the final to Japan by 4-1. Read more
South and North Korea will form a joint judo team for a mixed team event at the upcoming World Judo Championships. Three male and four female judokas from North Korea will join South Korean judokas for the mixed team event at the 2018 World Judo Championships, which will be held next week in Azerbaijan. Read more
