New IJF World Tour events planned for 2019

During a common twitter take over, IJF President Marius L. Vizer answered questions within an hour of any kind. The President said that Israel is about to be awarded with a Grand Prix for the period of four years.

“The procedure is under negotiation and we are very close to deciding soon for a 4-year Grand Prix in Israel” said Vizer. Canada is also in the race for a Grand Prix and the IJF is about to sign the protocol. Also IJF is negotiating with the Brazilian Judo Federation about a future organization of the World Championships for club teams.

On the issue where Israeli athletes have difficulties during the official ceremony in some Arab countries Vizer answered: “We are doing our best and our wish is to offer all nations the same rights according to their participation in judo events. From historical, political issues between different nations in the world which basically have to be solved by politicians & international organisations. As judo we are working seriously on this matter.”

Furthermore the President said the IJF is working to realise a combined team of North and South Korea at the World Championships in Baku. “We are hopeful. We are still waiting for the confirmation from the North Korean Judo Federation to implement this strategy in Baku this year”

The IJF is investigating the case in Georgian judo where the President resigned from his position after protests and the Ministry of Sport will have to reestablish the previous administration. Vizer said: “It is a strange behavior which the IJF finds difficult to understand regarding the stories in Georgia. We are investigating the situation of Georgian Judo and we will have soon a conclusion. I always agree to make changes but by democratic and legal way not by force. The Ministry of Sport in Georgia has to reestablish the previous administration of Georgian Judo and after with the statutes of the NF, the members have the right to initiate any statutory and legal procedures when they want to change the administration.”

Italy bids successful for Junior Worlds in 2021

The International Judo Federation and the Federazione Italiana Judo Lotta Karate Arti Marziali (FIJLKAM) penned a contract agreement on Friday for Italy’s national judo federation to host the 2021 Junior World Championships in the resort city of Olbia. The previous Junior Worlds were held in Marrakech last October. In 1986 the Junior Worlds were held in the Italian capital Rome. Read more

Judo statue moved from Budapest to Lausanne

An amazing judo statue was unveiled on Monday at the Olympic Museum on the shores of Lake Geneva in Lausanne by IOC President Thomas Bach together with IJF President Marius Vizer. The statue was created by the artist Fodor-Lengyel Zoltan and was previously exhibited at the Budapest Judo World Championships in 2017. Read more

New country record at 2019 Judo World Championships

The World Championships set a country new record. A colossal 147 countries will take part in the Worlds in Tokyo, more than the 138 countries at the 2007 Worlds in Rio de Janeiro. The 841 active judoka is not a record, but only in Paris in 2011 there were more participants (865). Read more
