Mittersill celebrates 25th edition with top athletes in Austria

The Olympic Training Centre in Mittersill celebrates its 25th anniversary. The Austrian village close to Salzburg is traditionally host of the top judoka around the world for the opening of the season. The Training camp delivers great competition and many athletes have yet arrived in Austria.
In Oberpinzgau, a new participant record is expected at the training camp which takes until 16 January. More than 1,100 Judoka from 46 nations from all continents have registered for the season preparation.
In each weight class, Judoka are among the top ten in the world rankings. In four categories are even the world number one in Mittersill. Japanese top fighter Hifumi Abe (U66 kg), Russian Olympic Champion Khasan Khalmurzaev (U81 kg), as well as Dutchman Michael Korrel (U100 kg) and his compatriot Guusje Steenhuis (U78 kg) are present in Pinzgau. Austria's elite is preparing for the World Tour season starting with the Grand Prix in Tunis (19th to 21st January) together with the world's best.
Particularly noteworthy is the participation of visual impaired Judoka. Paralympic teams from Spain and Romania take part in Mittersill. In the second weekend, the IJF Referee and Coach Seminar will take place for the first time in Mittersill with an explanation of the adjustment of the rules. 198 people from 54 nations have registered for this seminar. In each continent a seminar is organised so that coaches and referees will have the best understanding of the rules. Participants are Judo legends Yasuhiro Yamashita, Neil Adams and Ki Yeong Jeon, all part of the IJF team representing education, refereeing and Sports.
The athletes have taken over Mittersill with plenty of impressions from the tatami.
