The Flemish Judo federation appointed Olivier Berghmans as technical director. Berghmans was personal trainer of one of the most successful athletes of this century Ilse Heylen and has a wide international experience, vision and management capabilities to function in his new role.

With Berghmans the Flemish Judo Federation set a number of goals that should lead to more Belgian success at the major tournaments; European and World Championships and Olympic Games and more development from the age category 18+.

Olivier Berghmans reacted motivated: “Judo delivers medals for decennia to the Flemish and Belgian sports. However, more than ever this the moment the align the noses in the same direction, to harmonise the field and build out our beloved sport. I reach out my hand to all stakeholders in the field to work on our Olympic dream.”

The Belgian Judo Federation booked appealing results in the juniors this year with the world title of Matthias Casse and three World Junior bronze medals, three medals at the European Junior Championships and the first Grand Prix medals for Belgium by Matthias Casse and Jorre Verstraeten.
