Kazan Judo preview +78kg: the internal battles for Rio might deliver fireworks

Emilie Andeol is the double reining European champion. The French has a good draw at the European Championships in Kazan for her third title +78kg. She should be able to qualify for the semi finals. Andeol who ranked number 5 in the world and number 1 on the entry list may face Iryna Kindzerska of the Ukraine in the semi final. Both Iryna Kindzerska and Svitlana Iaromka are in a battle. Both athletes represent Ukraine however, only one can go to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Also two participants for Jasmin Kuelbs and Carolin Weiss but the best German Franziska Konitz doesn’t compete in Kazan. Still both German’s could qualify for the semi finals with a little luck. The Turkish heavyweights are outsiders. Belkis Zehra Kaya and Kayra Sayit, both close in the World ranking at 16 and 20.

Transition queen Kayra Sayit takes first female European title for Turkey

The fairy tail of the unseeded Turkish heavyweight Kayra Sayit is not over yet. The 28-year Sayit won the European title in the autumn of her career. Sayit switched from France to Turkey and changed her name from Mathé to Sayit and got more chances to fight internationally. Despite the competition in Turkey in the weight category she was able to take the European title with Belkis Zehra Kaya who won the bronze. Read more


France at full strength with Teddy Riner at Grand Prix Samsun

398 athletes from 68 nations kick-off for the Grand Prix in Samsun on Friday. Of course a big team from Turkey with 52 athletes will compete and the eyecatchers are the women fighting at Day 1 U48kg where Dilara Lokmanhekim and Ebru Sahin will fight for the top positions. Both are potential Olympic participants for Turkey, but only one can go. They are ranked closely, Lokmanheim at 13, Sahin at 14 in the latest Olympic Ranking. Lokmanhekim and Sahin are separated in two pools, but they can meet in the semi final. Read more

Linda Bolder strengthens champions of Galatarasay

The Turkish women’s team of Galatasaray will defend its European Club title this Saturday in Vienna. The Turkish star team will this time unveil another surprise. The Israelian input is doubled by Linda Bolder. The winner of the Grand Prix in Samsun and Zagreb this year will replace British Sally Conway in the weight category U70kg. Read more

Teenager Sarah Asahina catches Jeju victory aged 19

Teenager Asahina Sarah of Japan produced a sublime display as she won all five of her contests by ippon including the final against European Games bronze medallist Belkis Zehra Kaya (TUR). Former Junior world champion Asahina, who’s is world number 37 with her 19 years was supported by her parents in the crowd, was a breath of fresh air in the division with her ippon judo flowing all day long. ECC Golden League organised in Vienna at 19 December

The European Club Championships- Golden league, will be held in Vienna this year. Last year the event was held in Samara, this time it is more central. At 19 December the best clubs of Europe will fight for the Golden league. The European Club Championships will be held in Tbilisi, as well at 19 December. The Austrian Judo federation is delighted to host the best clubs in the center of Europe. The first edition was won by Yawara Neva last year, the eighth title for the Russians. The Turkish women’s team of Galatasaray celebrated their first title ever. Read more
