Judoka from Japan Abe Uta became World Champion in 2018 at the same day as her brother Hifumi Abe. In 2019 she prolonged the world title in Tokyo. Abe was already Junior World Champion in 2017. She won the Grand Slam of Paris in 2018. She took gold at the Grand Slam Osaka in 2018. In 2017 she won in Düsseldorf in 2020 and 2017 as youngest ever winner of a IJF World Tour event. She won the World Junior Mixed Team Championships in 2017. World Mixed team gold in Tokyo in 2019.

Abe Uta of Japan won her fourth IJF World Judo Tour event in a row to extend her winning-streak to 24 contests. Paris Grand Slam winner Abe, 17, held down former Ulaanbaatar Grand Prix bronze medallist Wu Shugen (CHN) for 20 seconds and ippon in the U52kg final. Read more

Japan’s 17-year-old wonderkid Abe Uta wins her first Grand Slam

Junior world champion Abe Uta won her first Grand Slam gold medal as she improved on her silver medal from a year ago. Abe faced Sofia European Open silver medallist Tatsukawa Rina (JPN) in the U52kg final and emerged triumphant after just 46 seconds with an ippon seoi-nage earning the maximum score as the Abe siblings proved to be unstoppable on home soil.
