Georgian judoka Ushangi Margiani won world bronze in 2017 in Budapest. He was European Open Team Champion with Georgia in 2014. He was in the final of the Grand Slam Baku in 2015 and 2014 and Grand Prix Samsun in 2015. Ushangi won 5 World Tour medals. He won European Junior silver in 2014. Margiani was Georgian champion in 2015 U81kg. He won a bronze medal at the Grand Slam in Baku in 2017. He won bronze at the Grand Slam in Tokyo in 2017. He took silver at the Grand Prix in Budapest in 2018.

Russias Alan Khubetsov earns gold

Reigning Baku Grand Slam bronze medallist Alan Khubetsov (RUS) reigned in the -81kg category as he conquered Tbilisi Grand Prix bronze medallist Ushangi Margiani (GEO) in the final. The contest featured two of the brightest talents in the category and they are slowly making their way up the pecking order in their national ranks and establishing themselves at this level. In front of the watching Russian General Team Manager Ezio Gamba, his charge Khubetsov, 20, was able to squeeze out Margiani, 20, by a yuko – the only score of the contest – as both judoka finished the contest with three shido penalties. Georgia remains dominant at European Cup Juniors 6th Iliadis Cup

Last year Georgia was the nation that swept the medals in the European Cup of Thessaloniki, the former Iliadis Cup, whose curtain dropped today in Alexander's Melathron of Thessaloniki. The juniors of Georgia collected 12 medals, namely five gold , two silver and five bronze medals, leaving second place to Germany with two gold, four silver and two bronze medals. Read more
