Hifume Abe became World Champion in 2018 in Baku and 2017 in Budapest. He took bronze in Tokyo in 2019. Abe became well known since he won the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing in 2014. He fought the World Junior Championships final in 2014. Won silver at the World Cadet Championships in Miami. He won the Grand Slam in Tyumen and Grand Slam in Tokyo in 2016 as youngest winner. In 2017 he won the Grand Slams in Paris, Tokyo and Ekaterinburg. World Mixed team gold in Tokyo in 2019.

The final U60kg at the Masters in Guangzhou was an interesting one. The numbers one and two of the World Ranking list fought each-other. Robert Mshvidobadze won the Masters and defeated his Georgian rival Amiran Papinashvili. Read more

Maruyama Joshiro of Japan stole the show in the U66kg category as he outshone two-time and reigning world champion Abe Hifumi (JPN). Maruyama defeated the seven-time Grand Slam winner in the last contest on day one in Osaka with a yoko-tomoe-nage effort catching Abe off guard after 63 seconds of golden score. Read more

At the Youth Olympic Games starting on Saturday in Buenos Aires, the judo event will be carefully followed by the fans. In 2014 Hifumi Abe was one of the winners. Both Bogdan Iadov (UKR) and Hifumi Abe (JPN), won silver at U60 kg and U66 kg categories at the World Championships for cadets in Miami. Read more
