Saeid Mollaei of Iran became World Champion in 2017 in Baku and won world bronze in 2017 in Budapest. He won bronze medals at the Grand Prix in Samsun and Ulaanbaatar in 2015. He fought at the World Championships in 2013 and 2015. He won silver at the Grand Slam in Baku in 2017. He captured bronze at the Grand Prix The Hague in 2017. In 2018 he won the Grand Slam in Düsseldorf and gold in Hohhot in 2019. He took bronze at the Grand Slam in Ekaterinburg in 2018.

At the second day of the Asian Games in Jakarta, Shohei Ono was crowned Asian Games champion. Ono who was not selected for the World Championships in Baku ruled the category U73kg and defeated double World Championships medallist An Chang-Rim in the final.
