Lasha Shavdatuashvili won the Olympic title U66kg in 2012 and took bronze U73kg in Rio in 2016. The Georgian judoka won European bronze in 2012 and the European title in 2013 U66kg. Switched to U73 and won medals in Düsseldorf and Tbilisi and won the Grand Prix Almaty. In 2017 he won silver at the Grand Prix Düsseldorf 2017. He took a silver medal at the IJF Masters in St. Petersburg in 2017.

World champion Hashimoto retains Masters title to end 2017 on top

World champion Hashimoto Soichi won his second World Judo Masters title in a row as he returned to the top of the podium after a minor blip at home when he won bronze at the Tokyo Grand Slam two weeks ago. The 26-year-old made sure that he will finish the year with number one spot on the World Ranking List to pocket a $50,000 bonus and all the bragging rights at home. Read more

Soichi Hashimoto claims expected gold medal U73kg

Japan captured another gold medal, their fifth in total and eight medals in total counting juist three days of fighting in Budapest. Soichi Hashimoto was the expected winner, and despite 73 judoka in this category U73kg, still the favourites were able to win the medal. Ganbaatar Odbayar was more of a surprise medal for Mongolia, another one from this relative new judo country. Read more

Tough choices in Georgian selection for Worlds in Budapest

No Tchrikishvili, no Matiashvili, no Chkhvimiani, no Tatalashvili in the selection of the Georgian mens team for the World Championships. The Georgians did choose to send two heavyweights instead of two lightweights or U81kg choices. Between Okruashvili and Matiashvili the more experienced fighter was preferred, but both failed this weekend to give a good outlook for the World Championships.
