Chinese heavyweight Sisi Ma won her first World Cup in Madrid in 2014. She continued at Grand Prix level winning in Havana in 2014 and Samsun in 2015. 2014 Asian Games winner. Ma won gold at the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi in 2015 and silver at the Grand Slam in Paris in 2016 and silver in Budapest and Qingdao in 2016.

Grand Prix Tashkent hosts record of 355 athletes in Uzbekistan

On Thursday the Grand Prix of Tashkent will start in Uzbekistan, always an interesting Grand Prix to collect some points for the world ranking where the competition is tough but doable. Two World Champions are at the start in Tashkent and the field is stronger than ever. Title defender Amartuvshin Dashdavaa is second seeded and separated from Sharafuddin Lutfillaev who is the highest seed U60kg in a field of 26 judoka. Rishod Sobirov won’t defend his title of last year. The World bronze medallist is absent U66kg at Dimitry Shershan (BLR) is the first seeded. 35 athletes will fight for the gold in this tough category. Read more

Yu Song brings heavyweight gold back to China

Yu Song has become the world champion for women +78kg. The World Ranking leader was able to defeat Megumi Tachimoto in the final. The Japanese was the only medallist who qualified for the final. She defeated Idalys Ortiz in the quarter final. It was Yu Song though who managed to deal with the expectations. Read more

A total of 34 women will be fighting for the world title to including world and Olympic champion Idalys Ortiz of Cuba. The World ranking list and seeding is led by Chinese Song YU. Despite the number of women, there are no real weak ones in the field. The level is quite high and a lot of surprises can happen. In the same pool with Yu also Japanese Kanae Yamabe. Chinese Ma Sisi grabs first Grand Slam gold medal

Chinese judoka MA Sisi made her Grand Slam breakthrough in the best style possible as she claimed heavyweight gold in Russia. MA defeated Tokyo Grand Slam winner Inamori Nami (JPN) in the final despite the Japanese judoka making a bright start with a robust harai-goshi attack which almost opened the scoring. Inamori pressed with a left-sided drop seoi-nage effort but it took three minutes and 58 seconds for the deadlock to be dramatically broken as MA scored a yuko to capture the gold. Read more

Chinese Qian Qin launches herself as world medallist candidate

The gold medal for heavyweight women at the Grand Prix of Mongolia was taken by Qin Qian (CHN) who delivered the final win against Dusseldorf Grand Prix bronze medallist Carolin Weiss of Germany. The German heavyweight, 22, had to settle for silver on shido penalties as Qin outworked her German foe in the last contest of the category, with two penalties given to the German while the referee did not need to penalise Qin.
