Petr Ponomarev was 1981 World bronze medallist for the Soviet Union in Maastricht (NED). The judo lightweight won international medals in the east block like Tbilisi, Budapest, Bucharest. He was silver medallist at the European Junior Championships in Lodz in 1976.
