Alan Khubetsov won gold at the Grand Prix in Zagreb in 2016 and Grand Prix in Budapest in 2018. Khubetsov won the European Championships U23 in Prague in 2012. He won the Grand Slam in Baku in 2014 as first senior success and followed up with victories at the Grand Prix Astana (2014) and Tbilisi in 2015. He won gold at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi in 2016. In 2017 he became European Senior champion in Warsaw U81kg. Alan won bronze at the IJF Masters in St. Petersburg in 2017.

At the Grand Slam in Tyumen, Japan ran away with the medal table with a 15-strong team and not one of them are part of their Rio 2016 team but rather Tokyo 2020 hopes. Their seven-strong women’s team won all seven gold medals available while their male counterparts won two gold medals. Read more

Van 't End and Aguiar jump in latest Judo World Ranking

Tbilisi winner Noel van ‘t End of the Netherlands did good business this week in the World Ranking as he jumped from 5 to 2 U90kg this week after his victory. Back to his best ever position where he was during his knee injury last year, but while being injured he lost a few places. Now he seems to be back with 300 new points, which may help him for a good seeding in Rio. Read more

Russian Alan Khubetsov successfully retained his Tbilisi Grand Prix title from 2015 as he beat former Junior world bronze medallist Levan Gugava of Georgia in the U81kg final to conclude an excellent display for the Russian. Grand Prix Tashkent hosts record of 355 athletes in Uzbekistan

On Thursday the Grand Prix of Tashkent will start in Uzbekistan, always an interesting Grand Prix to collect some points for the world ranking where the competition is tough but doable. Two World Champions are at the start in Tashkent and the field is stronger than ever. Title defender Amartuvshin Dashdavaa is second seeded and separated from Sharafuddin Lutfillaev who is the highest seed U60kg in a field of 26 judoka. Rishod Sobirov won’t defend his title of last year. The World bronze medallist is absent U66kg at Dimitry Shershan (BLR) is the first seeded. 35 athletes will fight for the gold in this tough category. Read more

Always a spectacular category in judo is the men’s U81kg with world leader Avtandil Tchrikishvili. He was is reigning World and European Champion of 2014 but suddenly in 2015 he lost the key of success. Obviously exaggerated as he is still a boss but lost a few times. Although he doesn’t need to be shape yet, he will be eager enough to regain the European title. Last year he defeated Loic Pietri at home in France. Read more
