Odette Giuffrida won silver at the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016 U52kg She was fifth at the 2015 World Championships in Astana. She won gold at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi in 2016. The Italian judoka U52kg won various European youth titles and in 2013 European Senior bronze. World Cadet silver in 2009 and World Junior bronze in 2013. Giuffrida took a bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Cancun in 2017 and bronze at Grand Slam in Paris and Düsseldorf in 2019. She took gold at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi.

The victory of Odette Giuffrida gave the tiny Italian a place in the world’s top 10 U52kg, her highest position so far. In the latest IJF World Ranking all points of the 2014 Grand Slam in Paris were deducted and 50% of the European Open in Sofia of last year. Those reductions had a bigger impact on the current World Rank than the medals of last weekend in Oberwart and Rome. Read more

Mareen Kraeh still fighting at top level U52kg

Germany’s Mareen Kraeh became the winner of the Grand Prix of Havana. She’s is still fighting in the top despite her 31 years. Kraeh belongs to the potential medallists for Rio in the experienced German women’s team. In the category U52kg she’s fighting for qualification with Romy Tarangul who was also in Havana, but Kraeh convinced once again and seems to make it to Rio this time. Read more

World Ranking Leader Andreea Chitu is everywhere. The Romanian team are known as world travelers and start at most major events. Chitu medalled in almost all occasions. This year in Oberwart, Düsseldorf, Zagreb, Baku, Cluj, again Baku with a victory at the European Games but in Tyumen and the IJF Masters in Rabat she didn’t get to top 3. She won 21 of her 28 matches this year which is the highest win percentage ever.
