Naohisa Takato regained the World title in 2017 in Budapest. In 2013 he had won the title in Rio de Janeiro for the first time. Takato won bronze at the worlds in Chelyabinsk in 2014. He won the World Junior title in 2011 in Cape Town. In 2009 Takato became World Cadet Champion also in Budapest. He was Olympic bronze medallist in 2016 in Rio. In 2017 he added his third Paris victory. Takato won the Grand Slams in Moscow, Tokyo, Paris and Masters in Tyumen 2013. Paris and Tokyo in 2015 and 2017

Naohisa Takato and Hifumi Abe don’t have to worry anymore about their qualification for the World Championships this year in Baku. Both men became World Champion and both won the Grand Slam in Tokyo. New in the Japanese qualification rules is, if you won both, you are automatically qualified for the forthcoming World Championships. Both are also World Ranking leader. Read more

Which World Ranking Leaders take 50,000 dollars?

The leaders of the IJF World Ranking per 17 December after the World Masters in St. Petersburg will receive an extra bonus of 50,000 dollar for each category. For many this will be an extra year salary besides the usual price money in the IJF World Tour. Never the IJF rewarded an amount of 700,000 as bonus at the end of the year. Read more

World champion Naohisa Takato earns his eighth Grand Slam gold medal

Two-time and reigning world champion Takato Naohisa won the U60kg title to celebrate an eighth Grand Slam gold medal and to extend his winning streak to 18 contests. Takato faced former world silver medallist Dashdavaa Amartuvshin (MGL) in the final and both judoka were tentative as they accumulated two shidos apiece in regulation time. Read more
