Ramadan Darwish won a bronze medal at the 2009 World Championships in Rotterdam U100kg and the 2018 he finished fifth in Baku. He is multiple African Champion. He won 25 World Cup medals and gold at the Grand Prix in Qingdao (2009), Tashkent (2014-2017) and Budapest in 2015. In 2016 he won gold at the Euro Open in Sofia. African champion 2016. . He took bronze at the 2018 World Masters in Guangzhou. In 2019 he won the Grand Prix in Montreal.

The plus category at the African Championships in Tunisia delivered the expected winners and both for the host nation Tunisia. Faicel Jaballah had won two African Games and today he added his 7th African Championships title. This time against Mohammed Tayeb (ALG). African Judo Championships help qualifying for Rio2016

Athletes from 31 nations will fight for the essential Qualification Points to participate at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The African Championships in Tunis are more important than ever and in the 14 weight classes each point can help the athletes to Rio. Last year at the African Championships the current host Tunisia was amazingly strong picking 50% of all 16 available medals including Open category. Darwish and Shershan ranked 7 after Sofia Euro Open

Sofia winners Ramadan Darwish (EGY) and Dzmitry Shershan (BLR) have both improved their positions in the latest IJF World Ranking. Both Darwish as Shershan are now ranked seventh. For Darwish one position better, Shershan was tenth last week and his best ever position was fourth in August 2015. Read more

Strong Olympic candidates show off in Sofia

A few serious candidates two qualify for the Olympic Games won the European Open in Sofia today. Egyptian judoka Ramadan Darwish is in the top 8 U100kg. Last year he lost the final against Michael Korrel, but today he defeated the Dutchman in the semi final and was able to take the gold medal. In the final Darwish overcame former World Champion Luciano Correa who seems almost sure about Olympic participation in his country after today’s silver confirmation. Read more

Strong Korean women at European Open in Sofia

The first week of February is traditionally the period for the European Open in Sofia. But Sofia starts early this year, this weekend at 30 and 31 January Sofia is the centre of the Olympic qualification in judo where both men and women will fight in the Bulgarian capital. Last year when the Tournoi de Paris wasn’t held Sofia shifted a week. Last year the host nation enjoyed the victory of Ivelina Ilieva U57kg and there was bronze U60kg for Yanislav Gerchev and U81kg by Ivaylo Ivanov. This year Ivanov is ranked second in the seeding for Sofia behind Yakhyo Imamov, the 2013 Paris Grand Slam winner is taking the first seed. Read more
