Israel, France and Russia celebrate gold medals
The French women remain the strongest in Europe. With five gold medals at the European Championships in Prague the French dominated the tournament. On Saturday Madeleine Malonga and Romane Dicko captured the European title. For men it was Russia that met the expectations with two extra gold medals on the closing day in Prague. Mikhail Igolnikov and heavyweight Tamerlan Bashaev claimed the gold and with two silver medals, Russia was truly strong. Only Israels Peter Paltchik could escape the Russian takeover. Read more

Madeleine Malonga secures Olympic selection
French World champion Madeleine Malonga defeated World Judo Masters winner Fanny Estelle Posvite (FRA) in a disappointing final as both judoka cancelled each other out and were reluctant to take any risks. World number one Malonga retained her Paris title by seeing off world number 13 Posvite, who moved up from -70kg to -78kg a year ago, on shidos to the frustration of the home crowd. Read more

Sagi Muki concludes successful 2019 as top earner
The IJF will continue its end-of-year tradition of awarding a prize money bonus to all 14 world number ones on the final IJF World Ranking List for 2019. The bonus, which was first introduced in 2016, will see the world number one’s in each of the 14 weight categories scoop a bonus of $10,000 per judoka. Read more
