Brazilian Maria Suelen Altheman reached the final of the World Championships twice in 2013 and 2014. She won the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi in 2016 and she won the Grand Slam of Ekaterinburg in 2019. She took gold at the Grand Prix in Düsseldorf and silver in Tbilisi. Altheman won World silver with Brazil in 2013 and won World Military Championships silver. She won bronze at the Grand Slam in Tokyo and IJF Masters in 2017 and 2018. Altheman took a silver medal at the GS in Ekaterinburg and Brasilia

Two-time Brazilian world silver medallist Maria Suelen Altheman reigned at the Grand Prix of Dusseldorf as the Rio 2016 Olympic Games medal hope defeated world champion of China Yu Song in the +78kg final. Altheman threw Yu with a beautiful harai-goshi and then pinned down the Chinese fighter with a kuzure-kesa-gatame for 15 seconds to seal a superb win in 56 seconds. Read more

At the last day of the Grand prix in Düsseldorf the home crowd gets what it deserves, two German finallists Luise Malzahn and Dimitri Peters. Especially Luise Malzahn was the expected judoka in the final block. In a top final she will face French nemesis Audrey Tcheumeo. A total of 34 women will be fighting for the world title to including world and Olympic champion Idalys Ortiz of Cuba. The World ranking list and seeding is led by Chinese Song YU. Despite the number of women, there are no real weak ones in the field. The level is quite high and a lot of surprises can happen. In the same pool with Yu also Japanese Kanae Yamabe.
