Brazilian Rafaela Silva became Olympic Champion in Rio in 2016 and was 2013 World Champion, also in Rio. In 2011 she won World silver. She won gold at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi in 2016. Silva won the Junior world title in 2008. Born in the Rio favelas and represents the Brazilian Sports dream. She helps with Flavio Canto's project to help the poor people. She won the Grand Prix in Budapest and Cancun in 2018. She became World Military champion in 2018 in Rio. She won than 30 World Cup medals.

Grand Slam Baku underway with European finallists loss

The Grand Slam of Baku has welcomed 448 judoka (279 men, 169 women) from 76 nations to the second of five annual Grand Slams on the IJF World Judo Tour. Only three events remain in the Olympic qualification phase with the Baku Grand Slam being followed by the Almaty Grand Prix next week (13-15 May) and the final points available are up for grabs at the invite-only World Judo Masters (27-29 May) in Guadalajara, Mexico. Rafaela Silva is on her twenty-fourth spring, and yet she has already made her mark in the history of her country by becoming the first female Brazilian judo world champion in 2013. It was precisely in Rio where she went from being virtually unknown to a national glory. This transition was further reinforced by the fact that Rafaela was born and raised in ‘Cidade de Deus' (City of God), another Favela of Rio, made famous by the directors Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund who in 2002 described the violence prevailing in the district, based on the book of the same name by Paulo Linens. Van 't End and Aguiar jump in latest Judo World Ranking

Tbilisi winner Noel van ‘t End of the Netherlands did good business this week in the World Ranking as he jumped from 5 to 2 U90kg this week after his victory. Back to his best ever position where he was during his knee injury last year, but while being injured he lost a few places. Now he seems to be back with 300 new points, which may help him for a good seeding in Rio. Read more

Brazil’s first female world judo champion Rafaela Silva is back to her best after pitching a 100% record at the Tbilisi Grand Prix. The 23-year-old Silva won all four of her contests by ippon and saved her best score for the final as she caught Havana Grand Prix bronze medallist Nora Gjakova of Kosovo by surprise with a flying juji-gatame with 90 seconds left for gold. Brazil’s Rio 2016 hope, beat Olympic and world champion Matsumoto Kaori (JPN) with the same technique at the Tokyo Grand Slam in December. Read more

Five finals today at the Grand Prix of Tbilisi where first seeded Boldbaatar Ganbat (MGL) lost to Bekir Ozlu (TUR) in the quarter final. Ganbat goes for bronze but his compatriot Amartuvshin Dashdavaa will fight Diyorbek Urozboev (UZB). In head2heads 1-1, the last victory was for Urozboev in Tbilisi in 2015. Read more
