Brazilian Rafaela Silva became Olympic Champion in Rio in 2016 and was 2013 World Champion, also in Rio. In 2011 she won World silver. She won gold at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi in 2016. Silva won the Junior world title in 2008. Born in the Rio favelas and represents the Brazilian Sports dream. She helps with Flavio Canto's project to help the poor people. She won the Grand Prix in Budapest and Cancun in 2018. She became World Military champion in 2018 in Rio. She won than 30 World Cup medals.

Brazil is a strong judo nation and it’s sending a full 18-person team to Baku. The team has a mix of old and new but mainly older players. Good to see though that also some youngsters fit in the team this time, likely not yet for the medals. Read more

Rafaela Silva is back with gold in Budapest

Olympic champion Rafaela Silva of Brazil made an overdue appearance on the top of the podium on day one as the Brazilian hero defeated European silver medallist Theresa Stoll (GER) in the final. Silva last won gold at Rio 2016 and her last IJF gold medal was also back in 2016 (Tbilisi Grand Prix) but rediscovered her best form today. Read more

Tough pool for Deguchi with Rafaela Silva and Corina Stefan

Christa Deguchi of Canada is the only judoka in the sport who has won gold at the two opening events of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualification phase. Japan-based Deguchi, 22, has won five gold medals from five outings this year. Paris Grand Slam winner won the Hohhot Grand Prix and Zagreb Grand Prix, both first two events of the qualification. Top judoka at IJF Masters in St Petersburg

Olympic champions Rafaela Silva and Khasan Khalmurzaev (RUS) will be in action at the last IJF World Tour event of the year.
