Swiss judoka Ciril Grossklaus took bronze in 2016 at the Grand Prix Havana. He won the European Open in Tallinn in 2013 and the European Open in Glasgow in 2015. He took various bronze World Cup medals in Miami, Rijeka, San Salvador and Abu Dhabi. Swiss champion in 2009 U81kg, stepped up to U90kg in 2010. Double Swiss champion. He took bronze at the European Open in Katowice in 2017. He took a silver medal at the European Cup in Saarbrücken in 2017.

Dutch women rule at European Cup in Saarbrücken

The Dutch women’s team struck on Sunday at the second day of the European Cup in Saarbrücken. Both World Championships medal candidates Guusje Steenhuis and Tessie Savelkouls took the gold (U78kg and +78kg). Italian team superior at European Cup in Uster-Zurich

The Italian team dominated the European Cup for Seniors in Uster. With five titles in the women’s division and eight total gold medals the Italians topped the medal tally in Switzerland. Unfortunately, the field was extremely weak and this edition had record low participation numbers. The Italians had by far the biggest team in Switzerland (51 judoka), a stake of 22% of all participants, and 27% of the medals, and 50% of all gold medals. Read more

Two gold medals for Poland in Katowice

Two Polish champions on Sunday, the second day of the European Open in Katowice, brought the host nation to the top of the medal tally. Piotr Kuczera and Maciej Sarnacki were victorious in their categories after Poland received two bronze medals the previous day. Overall, it was a useful practice for the European Championships. France at full strength with Teddy Riner at Grand Prix Samsun

398 athletes from 68 nations kick-off for the Grand Prix in Samsun on Friday. Of course a big team from Turkey with 52 athletes will compete and the eyecatchers are the women fighting at Day 1 U48kg where Dilara Lokmanhekim and Ebru Sahin will fight for the top positions. Both are potential Olympic participants for Turkey, but only one can go. They are ranked closely, Lokmanheim at 13, Sahin at 14 in the latest Olympic Ranking. Lokmanhekim and Sahin are separated in two pools, but they can meet in the semi final. Read more
