Austrian Kathrin Unterwurzacher won the European U23 Championships in 2011 in Tyumen U63kg. She took bronze at the European Championships in Warsaw in 2017. She claimed the gold medal at the Grand Prix in Tashkent in 2019 and 2017. Unterwurzacher won gold at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi in 2016. She finished 7th at the Rio Olympic Games. After the Games she took gold at the Grand Slam in Tokyo in 2016. She won gold at the European Open in Oberwart in 2017 and 2015.

Paris Grand Slam silver medallist Anne-Laure Bellard (FRA) defeated Samsun Grand Prix winner Kathrin Unterwurzacher (AUT) in the first final of the day. In a contest which pitted youth against experience, Bellard, 32, was all but out of the contest entering the final minute with three shido penalties against her and Unterwurzacher, 21, boasting an unblemished record. Unterwurzacher takes second Grand Prix victory

The final opposed the African Champion Rizlen Zouak (MAR) and the winner of the 2013 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Kathrin Unterwurzacher (AUT). After only 20 seconds Unterwurzacher scored a first waza-ari with a ko-soto-gari on the edge of the fighting area. After one minute and a half, the Austrian launched again her right handed attack (ko-soto-gari) for yuko, immediately followed on the floor for immobilization and ippon. Read more

Unterwurzacher surprises Agbegnenou in U63kg final

The final for women U63kg in Abu Dhabi confronted Clarisse Agbegnenou (FRA) and Kathrin Unterwurzacher (AUT). The French being with no doubt stronger than her opponent, the title seemed to be her property even before the final started, but Unterwurzacher took her chance and superbly won with yuko obtained on a yoko-sutemi-waza. Kathrin Unterwurzacher regains her gold medal

In the category for women U63kg it was Kathrin Unterwurzacher who was the clear favourite for the final. She has a reputation in this championship with a gold medal in 2011 and silver last year in Prague. She felt today was her day for the gold again.
