Czech crowd see Pavel Petrikov in the final U60kg

The Czech fans are happy with a final for Pavel Petrikov. At the European Open in Prague Petrikov will fight French judoka Cedric Revol U60kg. It’s the first time that Petrikov reached the final in his own homeland. His father won the tournament a few times in the eighties where it the tournament didn’t have the status of a World Cup. Ludwig Paischer gives Austria home victory after 10 years

Nothing but happiness in Oberwart when Austrian veteran Ludwig Paischer won the gold at the European Open. He knew it was his last time at the Austrian Open where Paischer has had a long and successful history with two victories in 2001 and 2006. Since Saturday he won a third title. The only final at the Grand Slam in Paris between the two current Ranking leaders was the category U66kg where Davaadorj Tumurkhuleg (MGL-1) and Georgii Zantaraia (UKR-2) fought eachother. Now The Mongolian fighter is back at his number one position that he claimed in April this year, but lost. In total 6 fighters have been world ranking leader so far this year. Read more

Another victory for Japan at the Grand Prix in Tashkent. Teenage prodigy Abe Hifumi of Japan gave another mesmerising showcase on the World Judo Tour as he beat Qingdao Grand Prix bronze medallist Ma Duanbin (CHN) by ippon in the U66kg final in just 36 seconds courtesy of an osoto-gari. The 18-year-old won all five fights by ippon and did not give up a single score as he continues to raise his performance level with every outing and has judo fans and the media in awe over his incredible potential. Takajo Tomofumi confirms favourite role U66kg in Tyumen

Former World Judo Masters silver medallist Takajo Tomofumi (JPN) thwarted 25-year-old former Junior world bronze medallist Gabit Yessimbetov of Kazakhstan in the U66kg final to keep his country on the gold medal trail. World number 207 Yessimbetov, who was last seen on the tour in 2014 finishing fifth at the first Tbilisi Grand Prix, was second best in the final as he was behind to a waza-ari and accumulated shido penalties which were a sign of his struggles in dealing with the ability of his world-class rival.
